5 out of 5 stars Faberware Stainless Steel Percolator 8-cup   July 28, 2010

We received our percolator earlier than expected which was a pleasant surprise. We are very pleased with the quality and the ease of cleaning it. Once empty, all you do is empty coffee grounds and stick the whole thing in the dishwasher. We had a JavaPerk percolator prior to this one, but the coffee is so much better in this one. It works well on an electric stove top, which I had some concerns about. The brewing time is a little longer, but the wait is well worth it. I would recommend this to anyone that loves coffee. Stop spending $4-$5 for a cup of coffee when you get better at home with this percolator. It is an great buy for the price!!!! We are going to buy a second one for a spare :)

4 out of 5 stars Good Coffee, but ...   July 14, 2010

This percolator makes good coffee. It also makes HOT coffee, which, in my opinion, is the main advantage of a stovetop percolator over an electric one. You decide how long to brew the coffee, which is also an advantage.
A problem with this one is that it takes forever to boil the water for the brewing to start. Heat conductivity of stainless steel is low and the bottom of this percolator is too thin to absorb enough heat from the burner.
To solve the problem, ignore the Farberware instructions. Fill the percolator with boiling water, instead of "cold, fresh tap water".

5 out of 5 stars excellent and great coffee!   July 12, 2010

This has been a great purchase! Got it for camp and use it at home almost exclusively because it is so easy to use and the coffee is better than my Jura superautomatic! Would recommend the fitz-all glass top to replace the plastic one that comes with the percolator (get the one that fits percolators from 13/16 to 1 1/2 inch model #135 from Buy-It-Now). I got stainless steel to avoid aluminum and I really don't like plastic that is heated to boiling that might leave residues in my coffee. The glass top was easy to install and looks great too! This is a great percolator and makes perfect HOT coffee. Recommend without reservation.

3 out of 5 stars Great coffee, poor design   June 27, 2010

First, this percolator makes great coffee, with much better taste than our drip makers ever gave us. However, this is a poorly designed percolator, resulting in several problems. First, when making 8 cups of coffee, I find that coffee spurts out of the spout while it is perking, making a mess on the stove. Turning heat down low enough so that it still perks without spilling over is a tricky process, not always successful. Second, when we wash the coffee pot, it is difficult to get the rinse water out of the pot. The widening at the base of the pot collects liquid, and it's hard to get it out without totally soaking a dish towel. No, it does not air dry well. In addition to the wide bottom which catches liquid behind a groove, the top of the pot, when turned upside down, is shaped such that it also catches water. The spout hole from within the pot is quite small (surprising that it doesn't prevent that spurting issue previously mentioned), and it's sometimes difficult to pour out water that has accumulated in the pot.

I've had other percolators (including Farberware Electric 15 years ago) which did not present any such design difficulties. If you're willing to put up with the hassles, it does make great coffee. But you might want to look for the great taste of perked coffee minus the cleaning difficulties this model presents.

This percolator reminds me of the coffee I used to drink as a young adult. Makes great coffee!
