Very HOT Handle May 6, 2010 KB (California) While the tea kettle is a nice compact design and I love the fact that you can just pick it up and pour, the handle gets VERY hot and is NOT "heat resistant" AT ALL, even though it states that it is in its lists of benefits. In fact, I purchased this one after purchasing the OXO Uplift (a slightly larger version of this) after it had the exact same problem.
If you have an oven mitt handy and want to use it every time you make tea, then by all means get this. The truth is, though, this is a deal breaker for me. If it were a different size, or didn't whistle very loudly, or something of that sort, I'd still like this teakettle. As it is, I have no interest in burning my hand, nor that of my family.
My Third One ! May 1, 2010 Amazon Shopper I love the balance, relatively light weight, and the fact that it has a lid that comes off for filling along with a whistle spout that self-opens to pour when you pick up the kettle. They heat up fast too. But they don't last forever, and they're not cheap. Rust, chipping, or melting of the plastic cover of the spout get them eventually. Also, I had to go through some exchanges to get replacements with a loud enough whistle and/or no leaking around the handle base. But I love this kettle so much that it was worth it.
Love this tea kettle for the price March 21, 2010 Lisa T. Smith (San Francisco, CA) This tea kettle works great, especially for the price. The handle is comfortable, and it pours easily. It also has a nice wide opening and good whistle. I just caution against putting on the "power burner" of a gas burner. The large flame came up over the top and began to melt the black pouring cap.
Love This Kettle February 20, 2010 Chris (Sonoma, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What are all those negative comments about?? This is a great kettle. The whistle is plenty loud enough, there's no dripping when pouring, the handle doesn't get hot, there's no metallic taste and the pick me up feature works beautifully, opening and closing as you pick it up and put it back down. Buy it!
Cover Handle Broke In Two Weeks January 21, 2010 J. Cole One side of the riveted cover handle broke within two weeks of owning this tea kettle. Poor quality. Do not buy.
I drink tea every morning and the fact that the handle broke shows how poorly this kettle is constructed.
UPDATE May 4, 2010:
I found out that you are not supposed to use this kettle on the stove on any setting higher than "medium" heat. Do you have any idea how long it takes to boil water at medium heat? Although I OXO was kind enough to replace the cover on my kettle, I do not recommend any kettle that cannot withstand any heat temperature higher than "medium".
