 ENJOY THE WHISTLE WHILE IT WORKS! June 26, 2010

I love this teakettle - it's got a very sleek and functional shape and the overall design is nicely ergonomic. The fact that it had this train-like whistle was a big selling point for me, and while my particular kettle's whistle worked fine for over a year, alas, over the last few months, the sound has dwindled ever further away until now there is no whistle of any kind; no matter what DIY measures I try to recover it.
It is disappointing because the whistle was quite lyrical and reminiscent of old steam train whistles, so it had some whimsy and fun for my household. But as the functionality of the whistle doesn't come into play quite so much for me - my common living space is well out of earshot of the kitchen stove - I don't mind losing the whistle as much as other reviewers have. I'm the one who has to REMEMBER that I've got the kettle heating and make sure I get to it before it steams itself dry.
So I would say if you have it and you're okay without the pretty whistle, keep it and enjoy a quality kettle. If you need a whistling kettle, go with a different brand (or at least model).

It's really a very pretty tea kettle, but I burned mine up in under two months. The whistle is sometimes hardly noticeable. One time I was busy and I became aware it was hot when I smelled burning plastic. I contacted the manufacturer who essentially noted the instructions say to stand and watch it. Why bother with the whistle then? No whistle would actually be safer because you'd know it wouldn't whistle. It has some nice design features and some poor design features and looks great, but you can get a nice looking tea kettle that will serve you better for half the price. It will last much longer too because you won't burn it up.

So i just bought this exact same tea kettle from bed bath and beyond yesterday for the same price, I chose this one first off because it is 18/10 stainless steel, secondly I liked the look of it and the ease of lifting the whistle cap with the lever.
So I go ahead and heat up the tea kettle to see if what everyone here says is true, that it "does not whistle!" Well, for me, it whistled, but it was a very low quite sound, you can only hear it if you are only standing right in front of it which defeats the whole purpose of the whistle. If i was upstairs or in another room, I would not hear this! So it is true, the whistle does not work! This product is sorry, piece of junk. Shame on chantal, really disapointed for $50 you get this crap quality?!?! Im returning it and getting the kitchen aid one.

We have owned this tea kettle for about 5 years and besides me melting it by putting it on the large burner (gas) for large pots and turning it up and melting the cover of the spout, it has functioned flawlessly. The whistle is more like a train whistle which is a nice touch. Also they make this one now with a steel spout cover so I will not melt the new one. Also ** a trick is that I am lazy and so I just squeeze the spout open and fill it from filtered water instead of removing the top. I always use tea bags in the mug and this works like a charm. The shape of this is great for a gas stove as the heat wraps around it which is their intent. As far as the whistle not working there must have been a bad batch, but even if the whistle dies I would keep on using it. The handle never gets hot either.

Sorry for the one's that got a lemon but I love mine and have owned it for over a year. Whistle still works and everything and I use it everyday.
