1 out of 5 stars Rusts   June 3, 2010

I've treated this tea kettle very nicely and even with daily use I never experienced any problems with it -- handle was never too hot, whistle worked great -- except that it's rusting and deteriorating from the inside out. This tea kettle cost too much $$ for this outcome, not to mention the waste.

5 out of 5 stars Kitchenaid Quality, Kitchenaid Style   April 6, 2010

I like Kitchenaid products, so in spite of some negative reviews I decided to buy it. Having now used it for six months and having just ordered the same item in brushed stainless, I can enthusiastically report that I have encountered no problems with it.
It works exactly as expected: it heats quickly, signals when it has reached its boiling point, and I have encountered no problems when pouring. It hits the desired target with no splattering. When my son used it he had a splatter problem, but he did not fully open the spout before pouring.
The silicone coating on the handle is great.....no burns. Easy soap and water cleaning and the pretty red porcelinized coating makes it a great accent piece in my kitchen.

2 out of 5 stars Not worth the price   January 21, 2010

My dislikes:
1. The spout gets hot, so when your pour the water, it'll sizzle and drips all over. You have to pour ever so
slowly. It's not a tragedy, but it's an inconvenience, nonetheless.
2. The handle is not completey covered in rubber (or whatever that material is), so thre're small parts of the
handle that gets hot as you're pouring.

My likes:
1. The beautiful colors in comes with.

5 out of 5 stars Best Teapot Ever!   December 28, 2009

KitchenAid should win a design award for this teapot. It is really attractive (the photos do not do justice to the rich colors of the pot), it is ergonomically clever and thought-out, it is sturdy, and it heats water really fast. The price is excellent and it is a good bargain.

The only drawback is the whistle. I can't hear it very well. But I don't find that important. Besides, I know a lot of people who can't stand loud whistles on a teapot.

The handle is very comfortable for my wife, who has serious problems with her hands. Easy to lift, soft but certain to grip, and the pot is balanced well so it is easy to tip the pot to pour and to control it. The handle has never become hot. Even though it is cushioned it is also made the strength of steel in the handle. The lever that lifts the whistle away from the spoout is also very comfortable and you only need to lift it gently and it stays up and out of the way. You don't have to hold it down with your thumb, which is a problem with some pots.

KitchenAid has designed many excellent products, such as the stand mixer and the hand-help mixer, and only a few weak products. I don't care for their blenders, food processers, or cooking pans. But this one ranks up there with the mixers in quality and design.

It has a lid that is easy to remove and replace but it nevertheless stays put when you tip the pot to pour. No chance of having all that steaming water pout out when the lid falls off, because it will stay put. The base is wide and flat and stays put when I place the pot only part way on the burner. The lid and opening in the top of the pot are large enough to make it easy to fill the pot and it is easy to clean it, too.

One of the best cooking tools I have ever purchased and I am very confident that it will last for years. And as a bonus it is also well-designed for arthritic hands.

1 out of 5 stars Chipped inside   December 22, 2009

I bought this tea kettle and used it for a few weeks and then noticed it was chipped inside. So I returned it and purchased another one. I looked more closely at this one and it was chipped inside before I even rinsed it out. Wouldn't recommend this tea kettle at all. When a non stick surface is chipped, it leaches chemicals into whatever you are cooking. YUCK!
