HOT HOT HOT March 2, 2010 Brandon Woods (Atlanta, GA) 3 out of 8 found this review helpful
I just hooked this up and tested it for the first time. The outside of the kettle got VERY BURNING hot, like a coffee pot. I have used others that didnt get like this, I am returning this ASAP.
Heats up water fast fast fast! February 26, 2010 Judith Morton (Bellingham, WA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I gotta have my coffee first thing in the morning.
This kettle heats up the water much faster than a traditional kettle on the stove.
It's bigger than I thought it would be, which is absolutely fine.
I make my coffee using the drip method with the Melita cone, and occasionally I'll use the french mill press, and the Oster is perfect for this.
Use it for tea, instant cocoa, ramen noodles...or anything you'd normally boil water for.
The kettle looks nice and feels solid.
Love the blue light and how bubbly it looks when the water boils!!
I chose to make this purchase because Oster's been around a long time and is a trustworthy manufacturer.
The deciding factor for me to buy this kettle is because it's stainless steel.
I more than like this product, I actually enjoy it!
Bad quality as usual from Oster February 20, 2010 Exid (MA, United States) 9 out of 14 found this review helpful
Typically, I never buy Oster for being a synonym of low quality products in the USA.
But I was impressed with five upper reviews that gave this kettle 5 stars, so I decided to try.
I received it this morning, boiled water once... twice and - it started leaking water from the opening of the ON-OFF switch.
Not dripping - a full leaking! That's it.
Now about the design:
1. Because kettle has straight cylindrical shape with lots of mass above the water level - it is difficult to hold for people with weak hands. Kettles with wider bottoms are weighted better.
2. There is lot of plastic parts inside - this defies the "stainless steel" construction benefits.
3. Plastics used here look like cheap acrylics not a polycarbonate, so I may guess they will deteriorate pretty soon.
4. Whole thing looks cheap.
The verdict: Oster is low quality product.
I bought again Aroma (it also has mediocre quality, but at least it doesn't leak).
Electric Kettle February 11, 2010 B. Coleman 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a sturdy kettle. I am so glad I bought it. There is a blue light inside. I enjoy watching the light change.
Standard kettle January 3, 2010 Brian Jo 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
Cons (based on first week of usage):
- Auto shutoff kicks in a bit late for my taste. My older kettle shuts off a bit earlier, but this is a personal thing.
- Oily residue on the inside of the kettle. Difficult to remove, even after several rinsings with vinegar/water solution and dishwashing soap. Update: I don't notice the residue now, although it took 5 or 6 boilings to get to that point.
- Inside is NOT entirely stainless steel, as another reviewer mentioned. There is the plastic(?) water level gauge, as well as a removable plastic mounting bracket for the filter, which is itself plastic. The wonderful shiny blue light (mentioned in the other reviews) comes from a small plastic casing at the base of the kettle. There is also a steel rod connecting the cap of the kettle to the base, and there is a small rubber seal at the base of this rod. This is not a lot of plastic compared to some kettles, but it is there.
Pros:
- Sturdy and straightforward to use.
- Easy push-button cap that springs open and clicks shut.
The cons above seem to be common to most kettles. Also, the exterior of the kettle gets very hot, although this is normal for a kettle.
