Great but things to note...... July 28, 2010

We love this kettle overall - you would want to for the price ;-)
Two concerns to note for potential buyers:
1/ Polycarbonate used for viewing windows on both sides and lid (BPA risk here)
2/ The base of the kettle itself (when you remove it from the stand) is HOT....... (we assumed from other brands/models that it would be insultated/cool) so you could not place it directly onto a wooden table etc.
Would probably buy again but prefer glass not polycarbonate and cool to touch base.

I was in the market for a variable temperature kettle. I was initially thinking about buying one with continuous adjustment but after reading the reviews I decided up the Breville.
I am very happy with it so far. It heats the water very quickly. I checked the water temp with a thermometer for the 185 degree setting and it was within one degree. I have been using it to pre-heat water for my Hario vacuum pot. I plan to take it to work to heat water for my AeroPress. I highly recommend it.

I purchased the Beville tea kettle for as a Christmas gift for the tea lover in my life. She loves it. My sister-in-law was visting and she had to have one. We purchased another one and had it shipped to her house. Another happy Tea Drinker! It is fast and really gets the water to the proper temperature based on which type of tea you are brewing. Who knew that different teas require different temperatures.

I'll admit - it's looks great. However, after a year of a moderate use it became a hassle to get the tea or coffee. The sensor that suppose to turn it off quit working and the water continues to boil until one of the family members manually cancels the process. Very disappointed as I paid a good deal of money. Buyers beware.
Had Braun kettle, quit working after years, love replacement May 30, 2010

I had a Braun hot water kettle for several years, with the switch finally reaching the point where it would not always turn on, or would turn on and shut right back off. Looked for a new Braun, only to discover that the American model was no longer produced.
After much research, I decided on the Breville Variable Temperature kettle. I love this item, especially its ability to heat water to different preset temperatures and hold it at that temperature. My wife drinks lots of tea and this is an excellent choice for her. The lid has a clear top--for what purpose, I don't know--as I never open the lid. I fill it through the spout and that works fine.
While I have only had the pot for a month or so, I would recommend it to others, even though the price is somewhat higher than I would like to see. I guess that you pay for what you get, and it has so many advantages over others that I looked at.
