This is a wonderful electric kettle. Probably the best one I have owned yet. Looks and works great. Solidly built, attractive and efficient. Quite satisfied so far. Good capacity. Would recommend.

2 out of 5 stars Rust on lid   July 15, 2010
Trumper (San Diego)
I purchased a Sanyo u-k170s kettle in December 2009.
After about 4 weeks I noticed that rust was forming on the rim of the lid at the back both sides near where the hinge is.
I contactacted Sanyo customer service and they exhanged the kettle.
A month or so later same issue and Sanyo customer service again replaced the Kettle
I am now on my 3rd kettle and the rust has started forming again.
Sanyo customer service (who have been very helpful) say that they have recieved no other complaints for this issue except mine and now they want to give me my money back rather than a replacement kettle.
I am choked because I do like the kettle but hate the rust issue.
Has anyone else experience that same rust issue with their kettle as me

2 out of 5 stars Sanyo Losing Credibility   July 3, 2010

This is my second Sanyo product I purchased this year. The first one, a rice cooker, performed well to my liking, but it had a faulty lid issue. I just ignored it as an anomaly, and I was just unlucky to have picked up one bad apple out of hundreds. Interestingly and incredibly, I'm having the same lid issue with this electric kettle!! What's with Sanyo? With their global brand name, they just can't get the lid right? Excuse me!!? The button at the top that you need to press to open the lid simply doesn't work. You have to press it several times and keep trying until you get lucky. Out of frustration I just pour the water through the spout when I make coffee in the morning rather than getting stressed the first thing in the morning by wrestling with the lid opener.

I gave the benefit of the doubt with the Sanyo brand. No more. The other day I was shopping at a local Costco and saw another electric kettle by a well known brand with half the price of Sanyo and with the same wattage power. What a mistake...

1 out of 5 stars Started leaking water after less then three months of use   June 30, 2010

This is an attractive unit assembled in China. The unit started leaking water after less then three months of use.

It's kind of funny because my previous Krups FLF2-J4 Cordless Electric 54-Ounce Water Kettle which has had the same problem but lasted a year or so. So this is second time the same problem surfaced.

Looks like quality of assembly of kettle appliances became dismal: buyer beware.

It's important to preserve packaging, invoice and to keep unit serial number which is a string of foil at the bottom (easy to lose as in my case it was semi-detached).

Warranty process from Sanyo is convoluted: for me website proved to be useless. So it looks like first you need to get to a live rep who will ask you to to send email with serial of the unit and the copy of invoice (which is easy in case of Amazon). Then they send you an address to send the unit for repair.

This kettle boils water fast within an acceptable noise level.I'm quite satisfied with it. It's a little bit heavy than I thought, but works very well.
