The BODUM?? Ottoni Electric Water Kettle is an offshoot of the original Ottoni Stovetop Kettle initially produced by BODUM?? in 1986. The Electric OTTONI is fully automatic, providing all the comfort and advantages of an electric water kettle. In designing the Electric Ottoni, BODUM?? kept the playful post-modernistic look of the original stovetop version and utilized most of the materials previously used, such as stainless steel and plastic, while adding a new handle made of plastic.To minimize energy consumption, the Ottoni???s stainless steel heating element is concealed underneath a stainless steel plate to maximize the surface contact between the hot metal and the water. The auto shut-off feature insures that the Ottoni is switched off when the water boils or if the heating element overheats. This protects the kettle from damage and indicates a high safety standard. BODUM?? is sensitive to people???s need for safe products. BODUM?? has integrated a removable scale filter in the spout that retains calcium deposits and prevents water from being tainted. In addition, the Electric Ottoni is cordless, reducing the risk of the unit becoming entangled in the cord. An indicator on top shows the maximum capacity of 1.5l/51oz.

My husband bought this kettle to replace our old one. It looked impressive, and for a little while (about 4 months) it worked well. I disliked not being able to heat two loads of water one right after the other--the kettle needed to cool down before it would begin to function again. This to me seemed a bad feature in a kettle. But then the control switch broke completely, and now it will not stay in the "on" position. What a waste! I'm getting a different brand that has received good reviews on consumer reports.

I love this electric water kettle. It heats the water quickly and gets to just the right temperature. Because you can remove it from it's base heating plate it is portable and can be put on any surface without harm to the counter or table. I have hard water and this kettle has a screen that collects the hard water deposits so the water seem to taste better. It's also very stylish. Great electric water kettle.

Bought product hoping for expectation of quality, and as an almost all metal kettle for worry over plastics leaching into drinking water. Well, besides plastic interior parts, the real issue is that after only 4 months of usage, boiling water on average of 3-4 times daily, the unit stopped functioning. Evidently, the switch mechanism broke, and understanding the difficulty (if not impossibility) of attempting a return, I gave up on the product. The search for the perfect, functioning, durable, and non chemical leaching kettle continues... A real disappointment for the high price. Seems like the manufacturers do not bother to read customer feedback such as found on Amazon. If they did, they might corner the market with a great product! Too bad, as most Bodum products are of good quality. Perhaps boldly attempt to manufacture a better unit here in the USA with high quality parts and labor.

On the positive side, this is beautifully designed kettle and well constructed of stainless steel, which is what I was expecting after paying a whooping $179 for a kettle.
However if like me, you were willing to pay such a price for a mere kettle in the hope of having an all metal kettle with no plastic parts, you would be disappointed: the water level is metal; the filter is cheap plastic but it is removable; however the inside of the lid is a black plastic on which water condenses and this for me was unacceptable for this price range. I fail to understand manufacturers who can be so greedy on their profits so much so that they have to cut costs by substituting with cheap plastic even when asking for a premium price. Also kettle is made in China, so must not have cost Bodum half the asking price....For $50 I could find an all metal kettle with a few plastic points, so I had to return this kettle back. Not good enough, so until someone comes up with a kettle that takes into account the concerns of customers, I will have to wait and settle for a stovetop kettle...

I'm all for form and function, but boiling water for a good cup of tea is not justification enough for a $180 electric kettle with a blue knob on it. I own this (a gift), and it performs well...as well as my 5-year old Braun kettle. Bodum in general makes great products, and this kettle is no exception. It boils water quickly, with no spillage. But:
- Keeping it clean (the stainless steel finish shows the slightest fingerprint) makes it more bother than it's worth.
- It's heavier than most kettles. Filled with 1.7L of water, it weighs about 6 pounds, making it difficult for some people to neatly pour from it.
-The cord is a bit short and higher gage (wire is too thin) than I would prefer.
