5 out of 5 stars No Strange Taste and Boils Fast   February 26, 2010
E. Savel
The title says it all, really. After following the instructions for preparing the kettle for use, I made a cup of tea and didn't taste anything "off," and I still have not had any change in taste since then. I have read some plastic kettles leave a plastic-like taste in the water, and some kettles with exposed heating devices leave a metallic taste; fortunately, this kettle has neither of those features inside.

The Keep-Warm function works fine, and the kettle does shut off on its own once the water comes to a rolling boil--with no sound or alert to wake up my college roommate in the early morning. Also of note is that the power cord isn't very long, but that isn't an issue for me. Keep in mind, of course, that I have had this kettle for less than a month, so I cannot say it has a long lifespan yet and is, therefore, really worth the price.

I can say, however, that it works very well, looks stylish, and has (so far) no negatives to it.

4 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect   February 10, 2010

I'm very please with this kettle and it is exactly as described. Only one small problem. After opening the top of the kettle to pour out the excess water, the filter falls out. I do hear a "click" when I put the filter back in place, but it still falls out once the top is opened and I'm emptying the excess water. Let me be clear, the filter does not move once the top of the kettle is closed. I like the idea that the filter is removeable for cleaning but would have liked the filter to stay in place until I removed it. Although you cannot reach into the kettle to clean it, a simple white vinegar solution works in a snap!

5 out of 5 stars Shapely sturdy kettle, with a small footprint!   February 10, 2010

Just what I wanted. I've burned up several whistling kettles and a couple of small saucepans, since it's hard to hear them from other parts of the house. This one is very sturdy with a comfy handle to hold and a beautifully pointed spout which does not drip at all after pouring. My only gripe is that the cord to the electric outlet is rather short, so you don't have much flexibility about where to put it on your counter. But that is its only negative point, and it takes up so little space that it hardly matters. It does not get as hot as I had expected it might. In short, a perfect kettle and stunning to look at too! I bought mine from Target and it was by far the nicest they had, including some which cost more. The Aroma in particular did not seem made to last.

I bought this kettle to replace a plastic kettle that I've had for years. Concerns over plastic in contact with boiling water convinced me to buy a stainless kettle. There is a little plastic in the water with this kettle from the water level indicator but the it is greatly reduced from my all-plastic version.

I bought this at Target because I wanted to check out the inside of it before purchase; there were no pictures online which is why I posted some at the top of this page.

It is 1500 watts and boils water fast. Also has a keep warm feature which is something I don't need. I have had no leaking water problems.

The opening is small but I can get my bottle brush inside to clean with no problem. The mesh filter pops right off. If you develop scale, just pour in a cup or so of vinegar, add some water & let it sit for an hour. I have very hard water so I do this every other week. I fill the kettle from my refrigerator water tap because that water is filtered. I had tried another pot before buying this one but I could not use my refrigerator tap; water ended up on the floor. This kettle has a nice flared spout that makes filling easy. I remove the mesh strainer when filling. I'm contemplating removing the metal bar that holds the strainer because I don't really need the strainer. The strainer hangs securely on that bar; no clicking anything to lock it. It's really simple/smart.

You'll see my little back dots on the water level indicator. (I'm referring to my photo above.) I added those with a Sharpie so I know how much water I need for everyday coffee making. I use the pour-over method to brew coffee directly in to my carafe. I use more water on the weekend, less during work week & the least when it's just me. I need things simple in the AM before I've had my coffee! The measurements are in liters on one side and cups on the other side of the indicator. This is very convenient.

Yes, it gets very hot when boiling water; it's a metal kettle with boiling water. Treat it like you would a hot pan on the stove - you would grab the handle not the pan. The handle is very comfortable to grip & far enough away from the body of the kettle to prevent burning. Also the kettle spins on its base so there is no need to grab the body to move it around. Just grab the handle & you're good to go. Yes, steam comes out of the spout & you may want to direct the spout facing out from under your cabinets; boiling water creates steam. Do not exceed the max water level. I tried that to see what would happen. It burped some hot water out of the spout; you could burn yourself doing that.

The cord wraps around underneath the electric base so it's out of the way. I always unplug this device when not in use. Just like my iron and toaster.

This is a pretty, curvy kettle; one of the nicest designs I've seen. I like the brushed stainless which looks nice next to my brushed stainless carafe.

5 out of 5 stars Goodbye Paul Revere kettle, hello electric!   January 25, 2010
Holl G. Bayonas (Greensboro, NC)
I love this kettle. I have always had a Paul Revere stove top kettle but I recently purchased a glass top stove. The copper bottom kettles are not recommended with these stove tops. I reluctantly purchased this kettle. It was important to me that it was not plastic but I did not pay much attention to other features. After the first use, I could not believe I had been old-fashioned for all those years, running to the kitchen at the sound of the whistle. This Oster kettle shuts off automatically after it boils. What a luxury!! I will keep the warranty information incase it leaks as one review suggested.
