Not bad, but not durable June 29, 2010 Emlyn Addison (Providence, RI) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We've had this kettle for about 3-4 years and it has worked flawlessly. However, it just stopped working and I'm guessing it's going to be cheaper to buy a new one than repairing this one (I don't plan to buy the same model).
A few minor gripes:
1. The water indicator is difficult to read
2. It's heavy (add the full weight of water and it's very heavy)
3. The electrical cord could stand to be 6" longer.
But apparently ours was not Braun durable.
Perfect cup of tea, everytime! December 18, 2009 DuchessP (Georgia, USA) I love this kettle and came back to buy another for a gift and sadly its unavailable. I have had mine for year and use it daily. I have had no problems. It heats quickly, filters the water, and is easy to handle. The bonus is it is so beautiful.
Minor flaw, resolved. December 12, 2009 tea slurper It's been 3 years since I purchased this kettle and I'm even more pleased with it now than I was then. I use it several times a day to boil water for tea or French press coffee and it does its job impeccably. It's easy to fill, easy to clean, and still looks brand new. It never really had a leaking problem that some people mentioned, apart from a drop of water here or there -- not enough to bother me. One thing that used to irritate me was the kettle's noisiness. I even searched other reviews here to make sure I didn't get a defective item. I had been using tap water, which is very hard in my area, and in addition to the noise there'd be a thick layer of precipitate on the bottom of the kettle, requiring regular cleaning with vinegar. Several months ago, I once again cleaned out the kettle and switched to deionized water. What a difference! The kettle is now absolutely silent! And it's faster with DI water, too. I highly recommend this item.
great for almost 3 years August 29, 2009 Sibir 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We bought this kettle in December of 2006 from Amazon and have used it almost daily since then and been very happy. True, after a few months it turned a little brown at the bottom where the heating element is, but since you can easily scrub the brown away I assume it is a deposit of iron oxide from the water rather than corrosion of the kettle. Since this is purely cosmetic and not visible I left it alone.
The design is great, for instance that the base is not directional and stores extra cord. Only the water level display is not exactly easy to read, but I have yet to see a kettle where this is easy.
Now the downside: A few days ago it started leaking, less than 3 years old. I looked into it: One of the level displays developed a crack. Doubting I can find replacement parts I thought I just buy a new one. On December 13th 2006 I paid $52.88 on Amazon. How was I shocked to see it is now selling for $200! How can that be? I knew it was a great deal back then, but $200? I would not have bought a kettle for that back then and won't now. Luckily, by googling I found a replacement kettle (without base) for $60 (+$10 shipping and tax). The base can be bought for $25, so you still should be able to get this great kettle for app. $100!
I"ve got 3 of these and I love them. August 17, 2009 S. Desprez (Texas) I love it. I've got one for work, one for home and one at my moms. I drink a large quantity of tea. We also use it to heat water for pasta, etc. It works very well. I got it for MUCH less than it is currently listed for ($199). On amazon I paid about $70, so it was worth that. I'm not sure I"d pay 199 for any kettle. Compared to the others on the market I do still like this one. It does have some plastic in it, which I am trying to ignore and not panic about. It shuts off automatically and heats very quickly. Ive learned to listen to the sound and can get it pretty close to the right temp for various types of tea (green, white, black).
