Amazon.com Review
Great for a dorm room or office, this cordless kettle lets you enjoy tea, coffee, or even dried soups at any time and without a range. And it's detachable from its power base for convenient pouring. The unobtrusive power base shuts off when the kettle is removed from the platform, and the concealed heating element never comes into contact with the water, keeping it from tasting flat or scalded. Made from high-quality stainless steel, the mirror-finished kettle is attractive and rust-resistant, and its 36-inch cord can be hidden in the base, making for easy, cord-free storage. --Madeleine Miller

2 out of 5 stars Stopped working after about 18 months   August 23, 2010

I bought one of these around 2002 and was fairly happy with it at first, using it 2 or 3 times daily while it lasted. It looks (in 2010) as if it has not changed since then.

After about 18 months it became impossible to switch it on. I think the contacts between the base and the kettle must have failed. It appears that many others have had the same problem, and it looks from other reviews that this is still a problem today (in 2010). So I would not buy it again.

There were a couple of other more minor problems:
(a) Handle is above lid, so refilling through lid while containing hot water can scald hands (but can refill though narrow spout instead).
(b) Handle position makes it a bit awkward to pour out all the water.

Other than that I was pretty happy, and the polished steel makes it very easy to keep it looking brand new.

Wanting another similar polished steel model, I replaced it with a Chef's Choice 685 electric kettle in around 2003, which lasted 7 years. See also my review of that.

5 out of 5 stars 8-years old & Still Working Just Fine   August 17, 2010

We bought this when we moved into a house with a gas range that took a traditional kettle too long to boil. I rarely take off the lid, but fill the water into the spout so there is no "boil dry" problem with a loose lid. I have absolutely no complaints about this kettle and there is no metal taste. It gets used several times a day, and boils quickly.

4 out of 5 stars Cuisinart's 3-year warranty makes this a good buy   July 28, 2010

Love the kettle - stainless inside, quick boiling, solid feel. The outside does get hot - not great if your kids use it for their ramen noodles.

Our kettle, like many others', failed after just under a year of daily use. I was reluctant to order another Cuisinart but my husband really liked this one and I insist on an all-stainless interior. Before I spent another $70+ I called Cuisinart to complain about the unit. With the serial number (no receipt), they determined that our unit was still within the 3-year warranty period and are sending a replacement free (I pay $7 shipping and send the old one back.)

If the new unit last 11 months, like the first, I will still be under warranty and they'll send yet another replacement.

If yours fails, call Cuisinart. It's so frustrating that the base-kettle connection fails over time but at least they replace them no questions asked.

4 out of 5 stars Contact gets dirty and needs cleaning   July 12, 2010

I like this tea pot and like some other users, mine stopped working after 6 months of daily use. I unscrewed the bottom ( used a very small slotted screwdriver with a gripping wrench for leverage on the three triangle screws ) and noticed that one of the copper contacts was dirty. After scrapping the the dirt off the contact surface with the head of the screwdriver I put the bottom back on for a test and now I am back in action.
This tea pot has been great in every other way for me, but I was not going to buy another in such a short period of time. Also, I did not want to throw in in the garbage if it could be repaired. Maybe someone can suggest a better way to clean the contact or a way to keep the dirt from building up.
